OC stands for Original (or Official) Campaign and refers to the campaign that came with the original release of NWN, the story involving the much discussed Aribeth.

To play a premium mod purchased through the BioWare Store requires an on-line verification just like attempting a multiplayer game. The newest premium mod Pirates of the Sword Coast is still only available by download. NWN Kingmaker “expansion” bundles Kingmaker, ShadowGaurd, and Witch’s Wake remake on CD. NWN Diamond edition bundles NWN, SoU, HotU, and 3 of the 4 current premium mods: Kingmaker, ShadowGaurd, Witch’s Wake remake and is only DVD. NWN Platinum edition bundles NWN, SoU and HotU and is either CD or DVD. NWN had two expansion packs, first Shadow of Undrentide (SoU), then Hordes of the Underdark (HotU). Originally posted at a different forum, but I guess I’ll post this here as well. Essentially it’s high level adventure with lots of fat loot to obtain, decent puzzles and interesting quests that fit well into the game. There are also a few neat little plot twists. It does have quite a few areas where there’s more going on than just monster-bashing though, and there are quite a few engaging NPCs.

It’s almost entirely an underground dungeon romp where the goal is to kill a series of foozles. There wasn’t much that was really exceptional, but nothing was really lacking either. HoTU was generally very solid all the way through. I suspect that Bioware was running out of time and just wanted to get the game out to retail and the last chapter suffered because of this. But then the last chapter becomes very linear and boring. The first chapter and the interlude are very well done in pretty much every way possible considering the limitations of the NWN engine. It consists of a few outdoor areas with one main town and a village or two, but it is mostly a dungeon crawler when you get down to it. SoU1 was pretty short, with two chapters and an “interlude chapter” in the middle. The last chapter is a bit of a letdown as well, but it’s still way better than the utterly horrible first chapter. I think that’s mostly due to the fact that Bioware was using it as a tutorial of sorts and thus the dialog, the quests and pretty much everything else was simplistic and cliché. There are a number of towns, villages, outdoor areas, underground areas, and just about anything you could imagine for a CRPG. So basically, the original campaign has some really good stuff in the middle of the game: lots of interesting places to explore, some cool NPCs, interesting quests and so on. I didn’t delineate the 3 chapters of HoTU because I felt that all of them were more or less equal. Where OC2 is equivalent to chapter 2 of the original campaign and so on.

OC2 > HoTU > OC3 > SoU1 > OC4 > SoU2 > OC1 However, I don’t think it’s quite that simple. There seems to be a general consensus that HoTU > SoU > OC (original campaign).
